Mark E. Sockell, MD, is an experienced physician dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to adults and older adults. He brings more than 40 years of clinical experience in internal medicine and geriatrics and is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care that emphasizes dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Dr. Sockell provides comprehensive primary care services for adults and older adults, including preventive care, chronic disease management, geriatric medicine, and the management of complex medical conditions. He has a special interest in caring for medically complex and frail older adults and has extensive experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings.

Dr. Sockell earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the Boston Veterans Administration Medical Center and his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Sockell has served in numerous clinical and leadership roles in both acute and post-acute care medicine. He previously served as Director of Medical Education at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, where he founded and led the hospitalist program. Since 2013, he has served as Medical Director of Novato Healthcare Center, one of Marin County’s largest rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities, and has also served as Chief Medical Officer of Meritage Medical Network.

Dr. Sockell is recognized for his thoughtful, thorough, and compassionate approach to medicine. He values building strong partnerships with patients, families, caregivers, and specialists to develop individualized care plans that support health, independence, and quality of life throughout the aging process.
